River City Charities

One person can make a difference......be that person

The President, Vice President and Treasurer of River City Charities organized an event in October 2007 known as Richmond Dance for the Cure, a pink tie gala. The event was billed as “a celebration of life” with 100 % of the net proceeds donated to the Richmond Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the cure. The event which focused on music from a local band, dancing, performances by local dance groups, silent auction items, celebrity hosts and awareness of breast cancer in our area.

This event sparked a need for more events like this to help keep this deadly disease in the forefront of people’s minds all year long; not just October during breast cancer awareness month. It was decided by the board members that the best way to use our skills and services was to form our own organization where we could make a difference. With the decision being made the process to establish our 501c(3) status started in early 2008.

River City Charities was organized in 2008, for the sole purpose of organizing fund raising events that benefit local charity organizations.  The largest focus on breast cancer awareness, research and education.  River City Charities will hold an annual dance event during breast cancer awareness month in October with the proceeds going to the charity the board agrees and contracts with.  Other smaller events such as a children’s carnival, a dance marathon may also be held. Ultimately the group would like to plan and organize 3 events a year.

River City Charities’ goals will always remain in the best interest of the charity we are supporting and the community as a whole. The goal will be to bring events that will not only raise much needed funds but awareness and education.  Information will be made available at all events to anyone wishing to learn more about the charity we are supporting as well as how they can help. Educational material will be giving at all events as well as updated on our website for viewing.

100% of all net proceeds will go to the charity the board is contracted with for that event. No board member will be paid any compensation from the funds of River City Charities. Expenses of the events will be paid from the proceeds. We will make every effort to have donations of materials and services rather than purchasing from the proceeds. Expenses such as entertainment, space for the event and proper insurance for the event will be the major cost involved. And we will make every effort to negotiate the best possible price for the service we are purchasing.  We will strive to have sponsorships that involve marketing, advertising, and printing to help offset the other cost.

As the organization grows so will our efforts and events. Always keeping in mind the original goals and ideas that brought us together.
