The Hawthorne

Last night I was honored to meet the most amazing group of people. They are all part of a breast cancer support group at The Hawthorne Cancer Resource Center. As powerful and strong as each one of these people are it was obvious after just a few minutes that a lot of their strength comes from each other. I've stressed the importance of the medical issues about breast cancer but it never occurred to me until last night how important being part of a support group is. Listening to the exchanges between them I could imagine in a time a need how wonderful it would be to have the support of this "family" behind you. Not ever having breast cancer or having to see a loved one experience it I can only imagine how painful it can be, but I know I wouldn't want to do it alone. And this never has to be a concern for this group, they are always there for each other. My focus has been altered somewhat; awareness, early detection, immediate medical treatment, and now SUPPORT. It's my belief that you do need to add support, not only for you but your family who will walk the same path to recovery as you do.
I was meeting with the Hawthorne Group to ask for their help. Without being touched personally by breast cancer I have searched for as much information as possible. I felt I really needed some guidance from people who really understand what I am trying to do and could help me reach out to as many people as possible to make them aware of how important this really is. I have asked the group to "be the voice in my head" to keep me on track, to look over my shoulder and point me in the best direction. I truly welcome their thoughts and information.Within that group of strong powerful women we found our "Celebration of Life Dance Team". The response was overwhelming. They were eager to help and get involved. I was hoping for at least 5 and I left there with 13 dancers. They seemed excited to give up their time, practice hard and learn a new dance to entertain at the Pink Tie Gala. They will be the face of the Pink Tie Gala over the next months. Everyone will get to meet each and every one on the Gala's website and watch their progress in video, and my comments. To complete the team we still need a few more men. We need instructors, advanced students or just strong male dancers to lead these wonderful women. If interested please contact me.
Also over the next months you'll learn more about the Hawthorne and what makes it such an important part in the life of anyone facing cancer of any kind. I urge you to take a look at their website at http://www.thehawthorne.org/  They are also a non profit group who could  use your support, after all we are all working toward the same goal.
Until the next update, Thank you for your support and keep checking back there is news almost daily now.
